WNBA Draft

At the  2024 WNBA draft on Monday (April 15), Caitlin Clark and Angel Reesewere both selected in the first round.

Held at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the draft was sold out within 15 minutes when tickets went on sale a few months ago.

Clark, who is the all-time leading scorer in the history of college basketball, was selected No. 1 overall by the Indiana Fever.

After being drafted, Clark expressed how it felt when she heard her name called by Commissioner Cathy Engelbert.

"When you're just sitting at a table waiting for your name to be called, that really allows the emotions to feed you," Clark said. "You're with your family. Obviously, playing a basketball game, I'm not out there with my family. So sharing that moment with them and enjoying it, and people that have really had my back and believed in me more than anyone, is super special."

Stanford's Cameron Brink was chosen with the second pick, followed by Kamilla Cardoso of South Carolina who was selected by the Chicago Sky.

The Los Angeles Sparks chose Rickea Jackson of Tennessee. Ohio State guard Jacy Sheldon was drafted by the Dallas Wings, and UConn's Aaliyah Edwards was selected by the Washington Mystics.

Reese, who led LSU to the national championship in 2023, was drafted the 7th pick by the Chicago Sky. She shared how much the moment meant to her and that she’s looking forward to playing in Chi-town.

"Knowing the conversations were so good and [Weatherspoon] felt like a mother to me," Reese said. "Being able to be a Black woman and as a head coach, and everything she's done at the NBA level, I just knew everything they were bringing to the table. Jeff [Pagliocca], the GM, was amazing, too, and player development is something that I was looking for and they looked for in me. I'm super excited for this move, and I'm just looking forward to getting to Chicago."

Completing the first round, Alissa Pili of Utah was drafted eighth by the Minnesota Lynx.

The Dallas Wings and the Connecticut Sun, who held the 9th and 10th picks respectively, chose international players both from France. Carla Leite is heading to Dallas and Leïla Lacan was selected by Connecticut

With the 11th pic, the New York Liberty selected Marquesha Davis of Ole Miss and the Atlanta Dream drafted Nyadiew Puoch from Australia.
