On March 5, 2016, a domestic violence incident between Sean 'Diddy' Combsand then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura was captured on security cameras at a Los Angeles hotel. The footage, which was published by CNN, shows Combs, clad in a white towel, attacking Ventura by punching, kicking, shoving, and dragging her, and throwing a vase in her direction.
Last year, Cassie, whose legal name is Cassandra Ventura, filed a lawsuit claiming Combs paid $50,000 to obtain the hotel's security video. Although the lawsuit was settled the next day, it prompted more lawsuits and a federal criminal sex-trafficking investigation. Authorities have since raided Combs' homes in Los Angeles and Miami.
Cassie's attorney, Douglas Wigdor, highlighted her courage in bringing the abuse to light, stating the video confirms Combs' predatory behavior. According to the lawsuit, Combs became intoxicated and punched Cassie, giving her a black eye. When she tried to leave, he chased her down the hallway, grabbed, kicked, and threw objects at her. Hotel staff urged her to leave for her safety, but she returned out of fear of further abuse.
Combs has denied all allegations and insists on his innocence. In March, Homeland Security raided Combs' homes as part of a sex-trafficking investigation. Combs' attorney criticized the use of "militarized force" during the raids.
